Teaching Experience

ml-49.jpeg

Celeste Lau's first experience working with children was at the San Francisco Ballet's Sensory Friendly Family Workshop in 2017, where she performed an excerpt from Swan Lake titled "Four Little Swans," which provided families with special-needs children an opportunity to experience a live performance. Immediately after, she dressed in costume to interact with the audience by answering questions, demonstrating various ballet positions, and taking photos with the children.

Lau began teaching in addition to her training at the Houston Ballet Academy by assisting in weekly classes as a Teacher's Assistant/Demonstrator for the Lower School. She assisted in correcting students, demonstrating combinations, encouraging students to continue exploring movement and elevating the overall energy of the class. She developed skills such as patience and quick problem-solving. From witnessing the students' unfiltered expressions of life and creativity, Lau was inspired to further explore what it means to be an artist as well as a teacher that helps cultivate and encourage the next generation of artists.

Recently, while pursuing her BFA in Dance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Lau completed Teaching for Ballet Instruction. Since then, she has used her experience in various dance genres to teach ballet technique, pointe, variations, contemporary, and jazz to ages 7-18. She began teaching at the CCM Preparatory School and has taught at Yoko's Dance & Performing Arts Academy during the summer.
